What is our goal in the long run?
To continue to scale up our commitment to the total development of Deaf in Nigeria. We promote Deaf literacy through Indigenous Nigerian Signed Languages. We conduct research on indigenous signed languages and the Deaf culture, reach out to families of Deaf children, advocate for the implementation of early detection, early intervention programs for deaf children; we advocate for the linguistic rights of the deaf children, especially those born in hearing families.
To establish early access to signed language for ALL deaf children in Africa and help end Deaf stigmatization. To see Deaf young adults t empowered through digital learning, healthcare, leadership and civil outreach. We’ve got many successes under our belt, but we need more collaborative assistance, and that’s where you come in.
Over the past six years, our projects have impacted positively over 5,000 deaf students in several Deaf communities in Nigeria through our community engagement outreaches which have often included free medical services. As we continue to collect socio-cultural and linguistic demographic data of the Nigerian Deaf community, we have been equipped with very deep information about Deaf in Nigeria and in Africa at large, which boosts our passion to serve more.
Learn how you can get involved
Donate to a specific project need, for example, to “$10 for a study material “, or else to a project generally e.g. “our Promote Deaf Literacy”, or our “Beauty Beyond Speech” projects. Since our partnership with Globalgiving, donating to our projects has been made easy – just a click of button away!
You can donate anonymously if you so wish. Rather than a one-off donation, you can become a monthly donor. you can also donate your time by being a volunteer. Our volunteer application is a very simple one to fill.
You can also donate your birthday by asking your friends to donate on your behalf as a birthday gift. It is also fun to celebrate your birthday in a Deaf Community and show them some love.
We write petitions occasionally to advocate for the rights of the Deaf on online activism websites like Change.org. You can also signup for and share our petitions to show support for what we do.
Spread the word! The more people who find out about a project, the more support it will get. So post a link to the project site on your Facebook page or include it in your email-signature. Or print out the project page and pin it to a noticeboard somewhere in the “real world”.
While you can volunteer with us directly, even travelling to provide needy deaf schools with materials and education, there’s much you can do on your own.
